Thomas Loraine

Please join us in praying for the repose of the soul of our brother in Christ, Thomas Loraine.

Thomas “Tom” Earl Loraine departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at home surrounded by his family.

Tom was born on March 10, 1946 in St Louis, Missouri to Earl “Bud” and Helen Loraine. Tom attended Pattonville and St Mary’s Elementaries and later Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) before going on to obtain his undergraduate degree at Saint Louis University in 1968. It was in college when Tom met his future wife, Carolyn. He went on to earn a Juris Doctorate at Saint Louis University Law School, graduating in 1971.

Tom and Carolyn married on December 18, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri. Tom began his career as an attorney for the Enforcement Division of the Environmental Protection Agency in Kansas City. The couple later relocated to St Louis, Missouri where Tom worked for the United States Attorney’s Office before finally settling at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri in 1976. At that time, Tom began a storied career in private practice that spanned over 45 years. Soon after, Tom became a father to children: Bradley, Sandra, Michelle and Jennifer.

Tom was known for his work ethic, grit and determination. He was a passionate and powerful force in his family, his career and his world. He and Carolyn forged a life at the Lake and became active community members. He proudly served as the attorney on Osage Beach, Sunrise Beach and Gravois Mills Fire Boards as well as a Village of Four Seasons Judge later in his career. Tom was also actively involved with his church, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where Tom and Carolyn have been active since 1976. He was a founding chapter member of the Knights of Columbus charter at Our Lady’s in 1985 later earning the distinction of a 4th degree Knight. He became the chapter’s State Advocate from 1992 to 1994. He remained a devout and practicing member of his church throughout the entirety of his life.

Tom and Carolyn raised their family to be hardworking, honest, intellectually curious and thoughtful people and he was at his proudest and happiest around his children, and later grandchildren. He loved the lake and boating and was known for applying his entire energy into trying to throw even the mightiest teenager from a towable tube behind his boat. He was a fun-loving father who frequently took his four children on “bear hunts” in the woods armed with his imagination and sense of adventure. He wasn’t above an indoor cap-gun fight (much to Carolyn’s dismay) and he was excellent at King of the Dock and ball tag. Often, after returning home from a work trip, he would walk in the door, drop his suitcase and an active (and often deafening) game of chase would ensue before the family would return to whatever activity had been interrupted. Tom was an expert at creating the Ancient Egyptian Civilization from sand on beach vacations and was never one to turn down a Mickey Mouse ice cream bar (or 2) when visiting Walt Disney World.

Tom was a loyal friend, carrying friendships from his elementary years and childhood as well as college and law school through the entirety of his life. As he was ailing, many of these old friends remained so present in his life that he was able to see them within weeks of passing away.

He loved staying active and even into his 80th year of life, he was still playing pickleball with his 5 grandchildren. Tom instilled a love of travel and adventure to his family and managed to travel to 48 states as well as many international adventures that spanned across 4 continents. Tom prided himself in giving his children experiences and trying to expand their minds to understand that the world was bigger than the community in which they lived.

Tom was an avid learner. He was always trying to learn something new and enjoyed history, wildlife and even in his dying days he would request a documentary to occupy himself. A lifelong St Louis Cardinals fan, Tom loved the game of baseball and there were many games of wiffleball played with family and friends. Tom was a larger than life personality and his presence in a room or in your life could not go unnoticed. He will be remembered for his fervor, his big personality, his hard-working attitude and his love and pride of family.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Helen Loraine as well as three half-siblings, Norman, Loretta and Earl Loraine. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, his son, Bradley (Charis) Loraine of Lake Ozark, Missouri, daughters, Sandra (Tim) Schaefer of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Michelle (Nathan) Heyer of Ankeny, Iowa and Jennifer Loraine of Cincinnati, Ohio. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Riley (17) and Quincy (15) Heyer and Ellie (16), Ethan (13) and Nathan (13) Schaefer. He was a loved husband, father and grandfather and his memory will live on in his family….. until we meet again.

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
