Education Commission Minutes

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Lake Ozark, MO

August 8, 2024 Meeting 

Those present at the meeting were Michele Haggerty, Karen Blevins, Barbara Steinman, Brandy Hutzler, Deacon Paul Poulter, and Linda Bukalski. 

Opening Prayer:  Lead by Michele Haggerty. 

Parish Religious Education Director Report:  FFF director, Michele, gave details concerning the following topics:   

*Curriculum change for Confirmation: It will be Chosen with Ascension Press. The Diocese has recommended this change as well; Mathew Kelly’s Decision Point is good but somewhat dated.

*Brandy Hutzler suggested ideas for parent participation; there are four dates in the FFF calendar with plans in motion. 

*Confirmation will be at Our Lady of the Lake in 2025. Possible dates include the first, second and third Wednesday of May starting with 6:00 Mass. 

*Michele has met with Karen Blevins and Sara Bartlett regarding the Youth Group.  There are many great things planned, including gathering once a month and offering many service leadership opportunities.

*The registration BBQ is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4 after the 5:30 Mass. Class for K-7 begins on Wednesday, September 11. Youth Group meets in September on Sunday, September 8. A flier for both was inserted in the bulletin. 

*All catechists and helpers are lined up for FFF.

*Michele and Karen sponsored an OLL table at the Osage Fest community event on August 7.

Adult Faith Formation: Barb Steinman shared the following:

*The Queenship of Mary begins August 13. The Education Commission hosts the Novena Wednesday, August 14. Volunteers for the event include: Michele: leader/opening & closing prayer and popcorn; Linda: Rosary and chocolate candy mix; Kelly: Daily Intentions; Marilee: Scripture; Barb: Reflections and cookies; Karen: Litany and Salt Water Taffy

*Vocation Cross: encouraging more sign ups

*33 Days to Morning Glory: completed and will do Consecration Aug.16 before the Novena. 

*White House Retreat:  14 are signed up to attend 

*Looking at Women in the New Testament as the new book study with a September start date;; also the Work of Mercy group will focus on the book Understanding Divine Mercy

Family Life: no report

Formed.org and Library:  Michele shared on Kelly Hamrin’s behalf:

*Still working on stabilizing and intensifying the Wi-Fi to promote and use FORMED; will be contacting Spectrum to assist in this; need to fix the issues before being able to stabilize its use

*The library shelves surrounding the table were cleaned of outdated resources.  OCIA will meet in the library on Wednesday nights during the school year.

Renewal Movement: Michele shared a report from Mel Graessle: 

*Looking for a replacement for Mel to take over this important parish role

*Advent by Candlelight: Karen will take the lead on this event with a planning meeting in September

*Joan Woods is the leader for the Women’s Welcome Team as they host an afternoon social with fun, food and fellowship;  it is open to all women of our parish and is scheduled for Saturday, October 19 from 2:00-4:30 in Bestgen Hall. 

New Evangelization: no report

Stewardship: Linda Bukalski shared the following: 

*The diocese encourages us to share as a parish Communities of the Beatitudes. This has an October projected date- this can be shared through Stewardship groups. It is also encouraged that youth groups be a part of this, too  

OCIA and Catechists: Michele and Deacon Paul shared the following: 

*There are currently 3 candidates and 2 adult/3 children catechumens that will be going through OCIA starting in the fall

*Deacon Paul will be assisting with annulment requests in our parish

Parish Scholarship: the application will be updated and included in the bulletin 

Parish Council Report:  no report

The meeting ended with prayer; next meeting is Thursday, September 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the library.  Barb is the designated prayer leader and Linda Adams will be the hospitality host.
