  • Opening Prayer: Barb lead us in a prayer for our nation’s the National Day of Prayer.
  • Present were Linda Adams, Karen Blevins, Linda Bukalski, Michele Haggerty, Brandy Hutzler, Marilee Poulter, Deacon Paul Poulter,  and Barb Steinman. 
  • Education Commission Charter:  Committed core team: Michele Haggerty (Chair); 2. Melodi Graessle (Vice Chair); 3. Linda Adams; 4. Linda Bukalski; 5. Karen Blevins; 6. Marilee Poulter (Secretary); 7. Barb Steinman; 8. Kelly Hamrin; 9. Deacon Paul Poulter 
  • Adult Faith Formation:  Barb
  • The Traveling Vocations Crucifix program  begins the weekend of May 5. Father will bless the crucifix at 8 am Mass. most weekends until August are already filled.  Pass the word to everyone. 
  • White House retreat is in fall and spots are still available in our reserved number.
  • In the summer Barb is planning to offer 33 Days to Morning Glory consecration retreat. Discussion held. Participants will pay for their own books which the church usually orders to get their discount.  On Amazon, book is $13.49 and Study Guide is $23.31. Barb will talk to Kelly about prices and have something announced to see who is interested To do the consecration or reconsecration, menn and women. 
  • Family Life:   Karri not at meeting. 
  • Formed.org and Library:  Kelly not present but Michele led discussion.
  • The Budget is due in May. Please look at your area of responsibility to see how much money will be needed to provide the services needed. Discussion held and budget reviewed.
  • Once we get the Wi-Fi more stable, we need to offer a sign-up weekend for Formed. Holding it in conjunction with donut Sunday might be a great way to get a larger draw. Next one is May 26.  Wi-Fi not working in many spots which prohibits doing anything on Formed or elsewhere. Members felt we can’t proceed with more planning until this is resolved. Michele will discuss with Father.
    • A group of ladies have been working on sorting and organizing the Library so that it will be more user-friendly. Almost done but the need a label-maker. Michele has one. 
  • Renewal Movement:  Mel not present but reported:
    • Welcome Weekend go in Kirksville was very well-received.  Retreat was full (25 attendees) and 17 attended the follow-up meeting (Linda A and Karri on via Zoom) to start formation for next one. 
    • The next Ladies Welcome Weekend will be October 19-20, 2025. 
    • CHRP/Welcome reunion for this fall is in early planning phase. 
    • The music for Advent by Candlelight is already set for this December. Speaker is Mary Winter from the Arise Women’s Ministry.
  • New Evangelization:  Linda B.
  • OCIA and Catechesis:  Deacon Paul
    • We currently have one candidate and two catechumens that will be going through OCIA starting in the fall. 
    • Deacon Paul and Marilee will be retiring from this role but will gladly assist Father Penn as needed.
  • Parish Council Report:  Linda A
    • Father is revising the charter. Signatures will be gathered once he has finished his revisions
    • OLL is official abbreviation for parish.
  • Parish Religious Education Director Report:  Michele
    • Both Confirmation celebrations were beautiful.
    • First Communion went well.
    • Planning on gathering a group to work on High School Ministry. Karen will be very involved in planning and executing Youth Ministry happenings. Sara Barlett will be staying as catechist. Tony Otto will remain involved in NCYC. Michele is planning to alternate one week of service and one week of spiritual and teaching.  
    • Next year we will begin in September working with the youth that need to catch up on sacraments. Any that will be receiving all three Sacraments of Initiation will be doing so at the Easter Vigil. Discussion held. This year five people will receive needed sacraments at Pentecost Vigil. Michele asked for prayers for 3 gentlemen in parish discerning calls to the priesthood.
    • Michele is budgeting for Totus Tuus for next summer. We will do that with St. Anthony’s.
  • Next Meeting Date: Thursday, June 6 at 5:30 in the Library

Coordinators for Key Responsibility Areas:

  1. Order of Christian Initiation:  The preparation for initiation into the Church for adults and children of catechetical age will be a special ministry of the commission, ensuring that there are catechists and sponsors to accompany the catechumens on the way to full initiation in to the sacramental life of the Church. __Deacon Paul Poulter_
  2. Christ Renews His Parish and Renewal Movements:  The coordinator for renewal programs identifies, introduces and supervises the various renewal programs that are available to parishioners. _Melodi Graessle_
  3. Marriage Preparation, Baptism of Infants and Formation for Family Life:  The coordinator for marriage preparation, infant baptism and formation for family life serves a foundational role in building up the domestic church in the home.  _Karri Brauman_
  4. K-12 Religion Classes:  The coordinator for the religious education of the youth has one of the most essential roles to play in faith formation. _Michele Haggerty_
  5. Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation:  The coordinator for sacramental preparation is a significant role along with the classroom catechists. The coordinator serves as an advisor, a facilitator and leader especially in ensuring that every person has access to sacramental catechesis at the appropriate time or remediating situations where a sacrament is lacking in the lives of the faithful. Michele Haggerty
  6. Adult Faith Formation: The Coordinator for adult faith formation initiates programs that Invite and enable ongoing conversion to Jesus in holiness of life; promote and support active membership in the Christian community; and call and prepare adults to act as disciples in mission to the world.  _Barb Steinman_
  7. The New Evangelization:  The coordinator for the new evangelization seeks out those who have not heard, or have forgotten, ignored or rejected the Christian message. _Linda Bukalski_
  8. Parish Faith Formation Library:  The Church has been and will continue to be a people of The Book. Therefore it is essential that literary, spiritual and catechetical materials be made available for all parishioners of all ages. _Kelly Hamrin_
  9. Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life:  The coordinator for vocations to the priestly and religious life informs, organizes and leads the parish in regard to ensuring that the Lord’s call to pray for more workers in the vineyard is heard by each parishioner.  _______________________
