Minutes from Education Commission Sept 2, 2025 Meeting
Attendees: Karen Blevins, Barb Steinman, Michele Haggerty, Linda Adams, Linda Bukalski, Brandy Hutzler, Lynne Green, Msgr. Greg
Adult Faith Formation – Barb
• St. Louis Church Tour: In November (dates TBD), 2 nights/3 days, visit 13 Churches, double-occupancy at Drury, $550 per person. Maximum of 13 people. Once the date is decided, will advertise in the bulletin.
• Mother’s Shrine Marian Consecration event: Sept. 8.
• White House Retreat: 10 attendees, leaving Sept. 11 at 1pm.
• Women’s Ministry-sponsored pilgrimage: Sept. 12, visiting 3 Jubilee-designated Churches, $150 per person.
• Diocesan Summer Workshop: Sept. 19 and 20.
• Women’s Ministry-sponsored Ladies’ Night Out: Oct. 17 and 18.
Parish Scholarship – Barb
• A few adjustments made to the form.
• Deadline moved to Dec. 2.
Family Life – Lynne Green
• Oct. 4 and Nov. 22 weddings.
• 4 Baptism bags are ready to go.
Renewal Movement – Linda A.
• Welcome weekend – Oct. 18 and 19, formation sessions completed, planning continues. Announcements made at Mass last weekend and will occur again Sept. 20-21. Msgr. Greg confirmed that he and another priest will be hearing confessions at 6:30pm that Sat. evening.
New Evangelization – Linda B.
• Msgr. Greg discussed “New Evangelization” and that the focus is on Catholics that are lapsed, bringing them back. This is one of the main points in our new Pastoral Plan.
Stewardship – Linda B.
• CSR training email distributed.
• Education commission will speak at Masses Oct. 4-5 on what we do. Tentatively, Michele will cover 5pm, Barb 8am, and Brandy 10am. Michele will write the script.
Women’s Ministry/Advent by Candlelight – Karen
• Bulletin board postings were discussed.
• Planning committee members request for Advent by Candlelight will be advertised soon.
FFF – Michele
• 10 Confirmation candidates (St. Philip’s will not be joining us)
• NCYC:
- Joan Wolf has volunteered to work with those going to NCYC to plan fundraisers. Lynne mentioned her suggestion to Joan about selling parish-branded apparel. Msgr. Greg suggested a summertime special shirt acknowledging that OLL is a summer parish for many people.
- Wave Runner donation has been sold and the money, along with another $1000 check, has been added to the NCYC funds.
- Cost was discussed – $750 per person covers bus, hotel, entry fee, backpack, T-shirt, and some food.
• Security improvements for Wednesday nights include Mr. and Mrs. Green supervising the two buildings during FFF. Msgr. Greg mentioned that materials have been order to switch many of the side and back doors to having only panic bars on the inside (no handles on the outside).
OCIA – Michele
• Adults: one Catechumen and one Candidate
• Youth: one Catechumen to be baptized and make First Communion, Confirmation will be made with the class.
• May have one First Communion catch-up and one Confirmation catch-up from the Spanish-speaking community, waiting on paperwork.
• OCIA begins Sept. 18 (youth catch-up begins Oct. 17)
Parish Council Report – Brandy
• Pastoral plan: Copies will be distributed at next meeting so commission members will be reminded of our goals as a parish.
• Discussion of elections for At-Large members will be Oct. 16, with actual elections moving to January. September and October months are busy with Stewardship activities.
