Family Faith Formation

July 7, 2024

This week’s readings have a common thread … rebuffing the believers of our Lord. I think we have all been there. Someone in your circle of acquaintances has something derogatory to say about Catholics.  Having attended Catholic grade school and high school and living in a nearly entirely Catholic neighborhood, that did not happen to me  until college. I was stunned to say the least! I was also unprepared as to how to handle the situation. If I had only been more aware of the Beatitudes and how to live them out, I would have weathered the situation so much better. The last Beatitude seems to fit with the readings this week. “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you” (Matthew 5:10-12)

This week as a family, talk about ways that you can hold your head high if someone speaks out against you as you go about living a good Christian/Catholic life.
