Family Faith Formation

June 29,2025

I used to have this saying that “Change is the spice of life!” I loved it when we found new and better ways to do things. I was on several corporate steering committees. Now here we are in the midst of another period of change. I realize now that saying only applies when it involves things/activities as opposed to people. When I first came here, Father Penn quickly became my favorite priest ever! I would notice as I left the office that my cheeks would hurt from smiling and laughing…then the tears when he got sick. During the time we had a different priest every weekend, I prayed that we would get someone “permanent” soon to fill in for Father Penn. Subsequently we were blessed to have Father Berhorst. He told us up front that he was not going to be permanent. I tried to keep myself from getting too close. That did not work. So here I am again with tears. Knowing that now Monsignor Higley will be here for the long haul, I am jumping in with both feet. I am confident that our Lord knows exactly what we need, and we will all be leaving here with sore cheeks. Thank you, Father Berhorst, and welcome Monsignor Higley!

Family Challenge: Please make it a point to introduce yourself to Monsignor Higley as soon as possible. I’ve been bragging about our families to him. Show him that you all live up to that and walk the talk.

Upcoming Events

  • Wednesday, July 16 – Bee Attitudes and the Saints following 5:30 Mass from 6:00-7:00. This is for grades 1st – 5th. We would love to have older students as helpers.
  • Wednesday, July 16 – XLT Adoration from 6:00-7:00 (after 5:30 Mass) in the church. This is for the whole parish, particularly teens and young families.
  • Saturday, July 19 – Supper with the Saints after 5:00 Mass. Sign up in Fellowship Hall. Pick a saint whose feast day is in the month of July and then come up with a dish that will be shared potluck style that represents that saint. For example, St. Joseph could be Sloppy Joe’s or since many Sicilians believe that St. Joseph is their patron saint, you could make an Italian dish. Please be prepared to share a few facts about the saint that you selected. This is open to all parishioners! It promises to be a fun community builder.
  • Questions,please call Michele Haggerty, DRE at (816) 210-8223 or (573) 365-2241 ext. 4.
