First Sunday of Lent

Because of our hectic schedules, we often find ourselves in the mood to “just get through this.”  I hope this Lent is not beginning in this mood.  These days are a gift from God, not to get through, but, rather, to use to strengthen our relationship with Him and to rid ourselves of the things in this life that are not that important.  Lent will open for us a new way of living, in fact a new way of life itself, if we participate fully in these days.  What are we giving up this Lent?  I propose we give up those things that inhibit us from becoming who we are meant to be and that is faithful sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father.  May these days be holy and special for us as we pray and prepare for a deeper union with Christ.

Congratulations to Mallory Walsh who will be participating in the Rite of Election and the Continuing Call to Conversion at the Cathedral this afternoon.  Mallory will be sent to this special ceremony during the 10:00 o’clock Mass this morning, along with our prayers and support as she continues her preparation and formation for Full Communion into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.  Mallory will participate in the Scrutinies next Sunday at the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
