Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

   This day Pope Francis has established as Word of God Sunday.  How does the word of God direct our lives?  How do we take the word of God to heart?  Our lives must have the word of God as the foundation of who we are, for without God’s word we wander in loneliness and dwell in the darkness of this world that counters that light and direction that God’s Word brings.  Like Jonah in today’s First Reading (Jonah 3: 1-5, 10), the word of the Lord comes to us to call us to a specific task that will make His will and kingdom known.  Despite all the difficulty of this Call, God will accompany us at each moment to fulfill our mission and to grow in greatness in His sight.  Let us reflect daily on God’s word to us and silence ourselves that we might listen to where and to whom God sends us.
