Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

God feeds us with His very self: His Body and His Blood.  Unlike feeding Israel in the desert journey with manna, a substance promised by God, He feeds us with His very self, to show intimacy with us, and a special bond of love and communion with those who hunger for Him.  How often do we take the Eucharist—the Source and Summit—of who we are as Church, for granted?  How often do we give thanks for what we have been given and received?  Today, and for the next four Sundays, we will be listening to the Sixth Chapter of St. John’s Gospel, known also as the Bread of Life discourse.  Let us mediate on and give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist to us, and yearn to receive frequently the Most Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ.
