Hank Sateia

Please join us in praying for the repose of the soul of our brother in Christ, Hank Sateia, Lake Ozark, Missouri.

Henry Leonard “Hank” Sateia died on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. He will be remembered by family and friends as the kindest, gentlest man they have ever known. He wouldn’t speak a harsh word, even in situations that might have justified it. He would do anything in his power to help people in need.

Hank was born July 1, 1931 in St. Louis Missouri. He attended grade school at Saint Liborius Catholic School through the eighth grade. He quit school when he was sixteen years old and took a job in a shoe factory in order to support his mother and siblings. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served two years active duty, deployed to Korea as an equipment operator. Hank’s only fear was that he would not be able to continue supporting his family. He sent his meager military wages home to his mother. Hank was released from active duty in 1954 and served six years in the Army Reserves. He was Honorably Discharged in July 1960.

Hank worked as a Teamster for A&P Grocery in their warehouse before going to work at Incarnate Word Hospital in 1975 as Maintenance/ HVAC Technician. He retired from Incarnate Word after 22 years in 1997.

Hank was especially proud of the house he built on Horseshoe Bend at Lake of the Ozarks. He began construction in June 1985 and worked every weekend and vacation day to do as much of the work as he could himself. He even slept in a tent on the job site until he could get the house under roof.

Hank was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for many years and was a constant volunteer. He was also a longtime member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and served in many roles including Faithful Navigator. It is impossible to list all of the volunteer work he did with the Knights. Hank was also a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks for 18 years.

Hank is preceded in death by the “Best Mom anyone could have” Frances Hadley, his brothers Edward “Eddie” Sateia and Larry Hadley, his sister Dolores “Sissy” Seigel, and his Niece, Linda Powers.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Arlene and her children: Rick, Lisa, Steve, and Mike along with Lisa’s husband Travis, all of whom he was happy to claim as his own.

He is also survived by his nieces Deborah Sateia and Ann Rathbun, nephew Brian Sateia, and many great-nieces, great nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom loved their “Grandpa Hank” or “Uncle Hank”.

Hank will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He would want everyone to remember what he often said – “Always remember, it’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”

Friends will be received from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with a Memorial Mass following at 11:00 am, Monday, April 28, 2025.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes, 514 Highway 42, Osage Beach, MO 65065 (573) 348-3232. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.hedgesscottmillard.com

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
