Honoring Our Lady in the Month of May: the Rosary
In anticipation of Mary’s month of May, Pope Francis wrote a letter to the faithful of the world requesting a renewed dedication to praying the rosary at home as a family.
Dear brothers and sisters, contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this time of trial.
Letter of His Holiness Pope Francis
to the Faithful for the Month of May 2020
For families who have not yet integrated this pillar of the domestic church in their own home life, May 2020 is the time to start. For families who already pray the rosary regularly as a family, this would be the time to make it a daily devotion for the entire month. And for everyone, the Holy Father has offered two additional prayers to pray at the end of the rosary.
The first prayer is a beautiful expressions of trust in the intercession of Mary as the mother of all the faithful using scriptural references and including the most ancient prayer to the Blessed Mother, sub tuum praesidium.
The second prayer is almost a guided meditation on the present circumstances of people throughout the world, a prayer which cultivates awareness, compassion, and confidence that God’s power always defeats evil and sin. “Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all members of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. “
To assist everyone in the family in praying along, the complete rosary can be downloaded and printed or saved to each person’s electronic device so that all can pray together.
