Diocese of Jefferson City, Tuesday, October 27, 2020
Call to Order:
Msgr. Marion Makarewicz called the 6:35 PM meeting to order with Deacon Paul Poulter, Mary Scarlett, Carolyn Lorraine, Kathy Cotter, Mary Wagemann, Tony Kirn and Debbie Noland.
Opening Prayer:
Debbie Noland opened the meeting with Prayer and Reflection.
Peace prayer for Saint Francis.
Msgr. Mak suggested reading and reflecting on the new encyclical.
Hospitality:
No refreshments during virtual meeting.
Minutes of the Last Meeting:
The September 22, 2020 Minutes were approved.
Worship Committee Leadership: (Annette Miller)
Annette Miller unable to attend.
Ministry of Art and Environment: (Kathy Cotter)
Fall display will be done this weekend and remain until Nov 27th.
White flowers have been ordered for All Souls Day.
There will be no K of C Mass this year for deceased members. Msgr. suggested that the names of the deceased members could be read during the Morning Mass on November 6th. He will discuss it with George Parise.
Thanksgiving weekend is the first weekend of Advent.
Penance service will be scheduled soon. Suggest having readings at a communal service. Will attempt to eliminate lines. No soup and salad supper.
North wing will remain open this year. A smaller nativity scene will be used this year in place of the larger nativity scene which has been in the North wing in previous years.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Novena will be celebrated in Church instead of people’s homes. Novena will start Nov 3rd and end Nov 11th. Msgr. will discuss appropriate placement of decorations with Deanna and Kathy.
Measurements have been taken and a proposal will be sent for permanent streaming which will include permanent fixtures on the walls and frees and where song numbers are on the wall and one in back above the speakers. Need location for control booth, Msgr. stated that the old vesting sacristy at the front entrance might be a possibility. Will be reviewed by Diocesan Commission,
Ministry of Hospitality: (vacant)
Our hope is that someone from recent CHRP weekend will volunteer for this position.
As weather gets bad, door by office will be open for access and get parishioners will be seated in the North wing. Outside doors for North wing will be closed.
The announcement read before Mass will be edited before this weekend’s Mass.
Ministry of Reader: (Carolyn Lorraine)
Three people interested in becoming Lectors.
Bishop McKnight will eliminate dispensation for people in good health over 65. Mass should be attended in person starting with Advent.
Replacement microphone for ambo has been installed.
Ministry of Music and Song: (Steve Jannetti)
Steve unable to attend.
Steve will have Worship Aids ready this coming week.
What can we do to encourage congregation to join in the singing? Some folks have trouble downloading the songs and prayers on their phones. Difficult to follow on phones because of font size. Create a sign to spell out web site where the song numbers are on the wall. Significant number of people feel using a phone during Mass is a distraction.
Ministry of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: (Mary Scarlett)
Since we are not currently receiving the Blood of Christ, people eighteen years old can be Eucharistic Ministers.
Call parishioners to see need of home bound Eucharist
Sacristan and Ministry of Mass Coordinator: (Tony Kirn, Annette Miller)
Rewrote Mass Coordinator duties. They will clean challis and ciborium. With an assistant to the Mass Coordinator the process would take less time.
MSP will schedule Mass Coordinators starting in November.
Tony Kirn is available to review new Mass Coordinator responsibilities.
Kathy Cotter will contact Annette Miller to see if she is available to take over the Sacristan duties of washing and ironing purificators.
Rite of Initiation and the Sacraments: (Deacon Paul Poulter)
RCIA final sessions for one candidate from last year with a review of Sacraments he will be receiving.
Monday night group excited about Catholicism.
New group on Wednesday night moving forward.
Prayer and Devotions: (Debbie Noland)
Thank you to Msgr for rosary coast to coast.
Word Among Us Advent books are available in Sanctuary on Nov 21st and 22nd.
Epiphany blessing chalk needs to be obtained.
Friday adoration only ten people participating. Only one person per hour and one floater. Perhaps reduce the hours of adoration and then have two people per hour.
Advent Novena for benefactors starting Nov 16th.
Working on enlisting a carpenter to build a religious goods market kiosk.
Prayer petition is getting long.
Altar Servers: (Zuzana Stipanitz, Paulette Spriggs)
Both Zuzana and Paulette were unable to attend the meeting.
Two new 4th graders and two 6th graders attended training session during PSR class this year.
Msgr. has reinstituted the practice of Server holding candles during Gospel reading.
Unable to schedule pizza party for the Altar Servers.
Some Altar Servers are helping with the cameras for streaming Mass.
Liturgical Formation of the Assembly: (Msgr. Makarewicz)
All Saints Day celebrated this Saturday and Sunday. All Souls Day Mass at 8:00 am on Monday Nov 2nd with a Spanish Mass in the evening (a time to be determined).
Thanksgiving Day Mass at 8am.
Remove last red strip in front of Altar. And replace with two red strips in front of each Eucharistic Minister.
Pope has extended indulgence of praying for the dead until the end of November.
Benedictine Sisters will still make low gluten host and Celebrants host with sealed edges. Need to find new company for Congregation hosts. Benedictine Sisters have deepened their partnership with Cavanagh to provide hosts with sealed edges. Msgr will get samples of host to determine which we will be using. We will discuss further in November. Msgr would prefer a smaller Celebrant host.

Next meeting is Tuesday November 24, 2020.
Deacon Paul will be the prayer Leader.
