Our Faith Is Like a Mustard Seed

To what shall we compare the kingdom of God?

This week’s Gospel says it is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seed on earth.

However, with proper care, becomes the largest of plants.

Let us look upon ourselves as that mustard seed being planted within the kingdom of God our Father.

As we are planted, we are cared for by our earthly father and mother, who have been Blessed to care for this child on earth.

With God our Father, our parents as an earthly farmer, watch over us and ensure that we have plenty of water, baptizing us, filling us with the Holy spirit and beginning our spiritual growth.

As we continue to grow in the Kingdom of God’s fertile field on earth, our mother and father ensures that we are cared for and that our roots of faith run deep and continue to nourish and grow.

This includes the first fertilizer of our Sacraments of initiation to include baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation.

We continue to grow within this beautiful field in which some of the weeds of sin start to creep and keep the nourishment of grace from entering our roots.

Our heavenly Father has a weed killer of reconciliation that kills the weeds of sin and cleanses us of any disease that may have attached itself to our roots.

As we continue to nourish and grow within this earthly field with the assistance and support of God’s many field hands: our mothers, fathers, family members, priests, teachers, etc., we continue to grow as our spiritual roots run deep as the fertilizer of acts of service, marriage or a vocational life, are placed on us for our growth.

Finally, as our grain has fully ripened, we are spiritually as tall as a mustard tree and ready to be with our heavenly Father in heaven.

Today, let us all remember that our faith is like a small mustard seed that enriched with hearing, understanding and evangelizing the word, God our Father will bring us into the bountiful place of his harvest – the  Kingdom of Heaven.
