Ascension of the Lord, June 1, 2025
It was nice to get away for a few days of vacation over last weekend, but now it is also good to be back at Our Lady of the Lake! This Sunday we celebrate the Ascension, which tells us that we are getting close to the end of the Easter Season.
The gospels tell us that the Risen Lord appeared to His disciples for forty days after His resurrection, promising to send them the Holy Spirit, before He ascended into Heaven to be, as we confess in the Creed, seated at the right hand of the Father. This coming week is a great opportunity for us to place ourselves in the position of the disciples, and to pray for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon us and our parish as we prepare to celebrate Pentecost next weekend.
Another big celebration this week will be this coming Saturday, when 13 men from our diocese are ordained permanent deacons, and 1 of our seminarians is ordained a transitional deacon. Archbishop McKnight will be returning from Kansas City for the weekend so that he can confer the Sacrament of Holy Orders and celebrate the Mass of Ordination, scheduled for 10:00am on June 7 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Jefferson City. All are welcome and invited to come and celebrate the great gift of 14 new deacons for service to the Church here in central and northern Missouri.
Please pray for these men and for their families as they prepare to lay down their lives in service to Christ and to His Church.
