Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 21, 2025

Whenever we recite the Lord’s Prayer, we remind ourselves that we have a paternal relationship with our God, father-son, father-daughter, parent-child. It is meant to be a loving relationship that is filled with a great deal of love and respect going both ways. In this weekend’s gospel from the writer Luke, we have Jesus giving us a parable that reminds us that as God’s children we are also meant to do His will, and this is especially the case when it comes to taking responsibility for the gifts that He has given us in our world and in our lifetime. For example, we have the very planet that we live on. We are to be good stewards of God’s creation so that it can be maintained for the welfare of all of humanity from generation to generation. We should never take it for granted! Also, we have the gifts of various relationships that ultimately are from God, such as family and even friends. And we should never take those relationships for granted. We have to be good stewards with our relationships just like with our planet. Showing respect, showing concern and compassion, showing understanding. These are the ways that we act responsibly.
And finally, there is the gift of faith, which challenges us to always keep in mind that we are not only made for this world, but we are made for eternal life. And we never want to take eternal life for granted. Jesus has earned it for us, and He wants us to arrive there. But just as taking care of our planet and the relationships we have is important, so also is taking care of our faith life. -Msgr Greg
