Minutes
Attendees: Theresa Brown, Dcn. Jim Hankins, Lusica Hankins, Stephanie Koch, Sharon Konuch, Jan Metz, Karen Pither, Katie Thurman, Louis Williams, Susan Zeigler, Don and Joan Woods.
1. Opening Prayer and Reflection: – Theresa Brown provided a “Dynamic Catholic Prayer” to open our meeting.
2. Commitment to Mission prayer – All prayed together.
3. National Eucharistic Conference – Jan Metz participated in this conference in Indianapolis, IN along with 60,000 other Catholics. She said that it was great to be with so many other fellow Catholics in one arena.
4. Ministry to Families & Ministry to those In Need (Salva vida Outreach) – Dcn Jim mentioned us assisting several to include support for rent, electric bill/utilities x 3, medicine and car repair. There was a blood drive in Bestgen Hall on July 8th.. Our goal was 21 units, and we ended up with 23 units total. Our next scheduled blood drive is for Thursday, September 19th from 10am-2pm. Stephanie Koch and Joan Woods offered to help with checking in participants and help as needed. School Supplies: Hope House assisted 120 students with backpacks along with each receiving a $25 gift certificate for a new pair of shoes.
5. Funeral Dinners, Compassion Meals & Kindness Meals: There were 3 funeral meals. We have served 11 compassion meals in the past two months along with our 27 kindness meals.
6. Ministry of Health and Spiritual Well Being – Jan Metz, Diane Richardson, Glenda Hinrichs, John Akscin and Ann Wallace visit those that are homebound. This ministry is going well. If you know of anyone homebound in need of communion, please contact Dcn. Jim.
5. Church Marquis – Dcn. Jim has four quotes that will be presented to the Finance Council. The current marquis will be utilized for this project and if approved, will have an electronic sign inserted. This will enhance the information to the parish and the public.
6. Social Concerns Hosting Novena – Social Concerns will be hosting the Queenship Novena on Wednesday, August 21 at 5:30pm in the Chapel. Stephanie Koch, Louise Williams, Joan Woods, Jan Metz have volunteered to read the different parts. A light meal of BBQ Beef sandwiches, chips, dessert will be served afterwards.
7. Ministry for Protecting Life (Pregnancy Care Center) – Baby Bottle Campaign collected from Our Lady of the Lake was $5,147.48. This total was 73 of 100 bottles along with some additional change and checks. We have an additional four bottles that will be turned in and added to this count. This has been the largest donation to date for this baby bottle campaign.
8. Ministry to the Community/Advent Tree 2024 –A total of 185 Angel gifts will be given out this year. Stephanie Koch announced that sign-up will begin at Hope House on September 30th. Lusica Hankins is scheduling volunteers for this.
We will meet to assemble angels at 6pm on November 7th . November 9-10th and November 16-17th, the Angels will be distributed at all masses. Gifts need to be returned by December 1st and prepared for distribution on December 5th.
9. Ministry of Hospitality and Fellowship (Welcoming New Parishioners) – We will be hosting our annual Meet and Greet for New Parishioners on October 5th. We will ask that each parish commission and organization have one member to talk with the new parishioners along with answering any questions about their organization. Additionally, each commission and council are asked to provide a dish for the potluck with the Social Concerns Commission providing the meat dish. Information for support is forthcoming to each of the Commissions and Councils.

11. Prayer Leader – Lusica Hankins will be the prayer for the next meeting, Thursday, September 12th.
