Minutes
Attendees: Theresa Brown, Dcn Jim Hankins, Patty McNally, Lusica Hankins, Sharon Konuch, Jackie and Bob Hiegert, Louise Williams, Glenda Henrichs, and Susan Spica
- Opening Prayer and Reflection: Patty asked us all to pray the Prayer to Michael the Archangel. Patty sated that Pope Leo XIII in 1884 had a vision of before the alter after saying a daily Mass. Pope Leo heard two voices speaking, one harsher than the other. The harsh voice (the devil) and the soft voice – God. The harsh voice, the voice of Satan in his pride, boasted to Our Lord: “I can destroy your Church.” The gentle voice of Our Lord: “You can? Then go ahead and do so.” Satan: “To do so, I need more time and more power.” Our Lord: “How much time? How much power? Satan: “75 to 100 years, and a greater power over those who will give themselves over to my service.” Our Lord: “You have the time; you will have the power. Do with them what you will.” Pope Leo XIII went immediately to his office and composed the prayer to St. Michael to be said after all low Masses. This was changed following Vatican II after the new rite of Mass was implemented. This powerful prayer is used to battle against Satan and the evil in the world. Given the evil that we see going on in our world today, Patty suggested that we again start saying the Prayer to St. Michael such as at the ending of our daily prayers or upon saying a rosary.
- Commitment to Mission prayer – Everyone prayed together.
- Our Lady of the Lake Parish Directory: Fr. Penn suggested that Dcn. Jim contact Michael J Dust from Unique Church Solutions regarding our church directory. Dcn Jim spoke met with Michael and indicated that Unique Church Solutions will provide a free 8X10 picture and a free directory for all that have their picture taken as long as 32 families sign-up. We are considering with having an online registration as well as a registration at church after masses. April is probably going to be the best month to take the pictures as more will be returning to the lake and will be in town during this time. More details to follow.
- Ministry to Families & Ministry to those in Need: (Salva vida Outreach)—Dcn. Jim stated that we continue to provide monthly services for two gentlemen by taking them to the Hope House. From 1 July – December 15, 2022, we provided $5,507 in assistance to those in need within community. We continue to provide support to those in need that visit/call Our Lady of the Lake. Our Diocese goal is for each parish to become a center of charity within their community.
- Funeral Dinners, Compassion Meals & Kindness Meals: Lusica stated that since November we have had two funeral dinners that were well supported. We also had two Compassion Meals and seven Kindness Meals delivered. On December 15, many donations of homemade/bought cookies that created 36 cookie trays were delivered to nursing homes and those homebound. This coming January 18, we will be providing ten compassion meals. Lusica appreciates all of the support and is always looking for those that would like to assist/support this ministry.
