Worship Commission Report – Julie Mercurio
February 6, 2025
· The commission last met on November 12, 2024
· Liturgical Support-Marlene Matyshak reported all new eucharistic ministers and lectors had been trained and commissioned by the diocese. More training is scheduled for the spring.
· Holy Communion-Kathy Cotter reported that a couple more mass coordinator volunteers are needed, especially for 10:00 am mass. At present everything remains status quo in the sacristan area.
· Prayer and devotion – Debbie Noland reported she continues to send out daily PPI (Prayer, Petition and Intercession) intercessory prayer emails for our parish. We currently have 65+ members and she is very grateful for all of them and their commitment to prayer for others.
· Music and Song – Stacy Gier reported that she is just in the inquiry stage of checking into having some type of monitors in church for songs and song number etc. She is still working on having more youth helping with music.
· Art and Environment – Joy Corwin reported that everything went very well with preparing the church for the Advent and Christmas season. With the retirement of John Riley, the A & E group will take over the preparations of the Nativity in 2025. An altar renovation committee has met with the Diocesan Director of Buildings and Properties and an architect to begin the initial steps to update the altar area in our church. The sanctuary has not been updated in over 27 years. The committee has shared a list of our priorities with the architect and the director. This process stems from Fr. Penn’s wish to replace the carpet with a solid surface and move the tabernacle behind the altar. The diocese is replacing all altar carpeting throughout the diocese. The architect will take all of our priorities and the preliminary ideas we shared with him and come up with a proposal that will be taken to the finance committee. If the committee approves, we will go forward to create a detailed design for updating the altar. The committee members are Joy Corwin, Deason Jim, Kathy Cotter, Barb Steinman and Don Woods.
